Building Consent Lodged — by Edgeware Pool
Another major milestone has been achieved. Building consent being lodged and currently being processed. A main contractor has been secured, along with local sub trades people and tender documents are out for the demolition of the old Pavilion. This will be sad juncture in the project, as the pavilion, with its colourful mural, has been the last vestige of the old pool.“The foundations for this new clubhouse were laid in September 1956, constructed of concrete block. The clubhouse was funded and built by club members. It cost £118 with the council contributing some materials. The new clubhouse was well used by the Royal Life Saving Club for all their Christchurch classes. During winter, table tennis was taken up to keep members together” excerpts from A History of the St Albans Swimming Club and Edgeware Pool 1892 – 2006 by Valarie Somerville.
