Swimmers from the Canterbury Open Water Swimming Association meet every weekend at 9 am throughout the year at Cass Bay for a brisk swim in Lyttelton Harbour.
On this day in May, the water temperature was 14 degrees and they generally swim between 1.5 to 4 km. And there are no wetsuits worn, only the float they use to make themselves visible.
The group is supporting the Edgeware Pool Project and envisages using the pool during the winter months.
